Watch the 2027 Solar Eclipse in Egypt
If you don't want to miss one of the events of the century, book this day trip to Luxor from Cairo to see the solar eclipse in 2027!
We'll pick you up at your hotel at 10 pm the day before the eclipse, which will take place on Monday, August 2, 2027. We'll travel by bus to Luxor at night. On the journey, which takes approximately 10 hours, you can sleep comfortably in the vehicle. You're about to experience a unique astronomical event in one of the most majestic places in Ancient Egypt!
Once we arrive at Luxor, we'll enjoy a breakfast at a local restaurant. Afterward, we'll head to the Karnak Temple Complex, where we'll go on a guided tour of the largest and best-preserved religious complex in Ancient Egypt. Built in the ancient Thebes to honor the god Amun, today, this temple is a must-visit on any trip to Egypt.
During the tour of Karnak, we'll pass by its most important attractions, like the Hypostyle Hall, whose giant sandstone walls will captivate you, the Avenue of Sphinxes, the Obelisks of Hatshepsut and Thutmose I, and the Sacred Lake.
Then, it will be the most anticipated moment of the day. At 11:40 am the total eclipse will start. You'll have free time to witness this historic moment in one of the viewpoints officially designated by the Egyptian government.
Once the eclipse finishes, we'll regroup and head to a restaurant to enjoy a traditional Egyptian meal. The "Eclipse of the Century" will be the main topic of conversation surely!
After lunch, we'll return to the bus and start our journey back to your hotel in Cairo, where we'll arrive after approximately 10 hours of traveling.
The "Eclipse of the Century" in Luxor
On Monday, August 2, 2027, the biggest solar eclipse in the 21st century will take place, reaching an exceptional maximum duration of 6 minutes and 23 seconds of absolute darkness in some parts of the planet. Egypt—specifically Luxor—will be one of the best places to witness the "eclipse of the century," as the Moon completely obscures the Sun.
The eclipse’s duration of over 6 minutes is the result of a perfect astronomical coincidence. Earth will be near its farthest point from the Sun, making the solar disk appear slightly smaller. Meanwhile, the Moon will be very close to its point of closest approach to Earth, appearing larger than usual.
The shadow of the 2027 solar eclipse will travel more than 9,320 mi (15,000 km), crossing Southern Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. However, Egypt will be the ideal location and the epicenter of the event; the historic city of Luxor lies almost exactly in the center of the path of totality.
- Start of the partial eclipse: 11:40 am
- Beginning of totality: 1:02 pm
- Peak of the eclipse: 1:05 pm
- End of totality: 1:08 pm
Furthermore, the desert climate of Egypt in August offers an 80% probability of clear skies, virtually guaranteeing perfect visibility for observing this unique phenomenon.
