Activity Details

Ready to discover the secrets hiding in the Rocky Mountains' night sky? At the designated time, we'll pick you up from the hotel you select when booking and set off on a very special evening in Banff National Park, which we’ll explore in a small group of no more than 10 people.

We’ll first head to a panoramic overlook above Banff, where we’ll spend about 15 minutes enjoying the views of the town and the surrounding mountains while learning about the town’s history.

Next, we’ll head to Lake Minnewanka for a guided 45-minute walk along the shore. As we take in the scenery at dusk, we’ll learn about the local wildlife, the lake’s history, and the Indigenous peoples’ connections to this area.

Afterward, a short drive will take us to Two Jack Lake, where we’ll spend 1.5 hours stargazing. We’ll enjoy this activity from a comfortable chair equipped with heating and a blanket, hand and toe warmers, and complimentary tea or hot chocolate.

To explore the cosmos, we’ll use telescopes, binoculars, and interactive star charts. Depending on the season, the phase of the moon, and viewing conditions, we’ll be able to see constellations, planets, star clusters, and other celestial objects. It’s even possible to see the Northern Lights, though this cannot be guaranteed.

Finally, we’ll conclude this 5-hour activity by returning to the pickup point in Banff.

Northern Lights in Banff

The best time to see the northern lights in Banff is from September to April. As this is an unpredictable natural phenomenon, it's impossible to guarantee that the northern lights will be visible during the activity.
